Learning Support

 What learning support is available at NKC Tonbridge? 

NKC Tonbridge College recognises that everyone is unique, and some students with learning differences, disabilities, sensory impairments or medical conditions may require additional support to make the most of their college experience. This support may include making reasonable adjustments to facilities and resources. 

Our aim is to ensure that all students can access the full range of opportunities available at the college and are supported to develop the skills they need to achieve their full potential, reach their goals, and gain greater independence. 

What support services are included? 

  • Assistance with studying from experienced and skilled learning support staff (in and outside of the classroom)
  • Individual exam access arrangements 
  • Guidance, information and advice for career progression
  • Deaf services providing BSL/ SSE Communication Support Workers for one-to-one curriculum and note-taking 

How can you access support? 

  1. Complete your NKC Tonbridge College application. 
  2. Tell us about any disability, medical condition or additional learning support needs on the application form. 
  3. A member of our Learning Support team will contact you to discuss your needs. 
  4. Together, we'll agree the most appropriate support to help you succeed at college. 

Our aim is to have support in place before you begin your course wherever possible.

  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) 

    Can I apply to NKC Tonbridge College with an EHCP?

    NKC Tonbridge welcomes applications from students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). 

    • Before a place can be confirmed, your home local authority must complete a formal consultation with the college, in line with the Children and Families Act 2014. 
    • Applications will remain on hold until this consultation has been completed.
    • Please note that receiving an offer from the college does not automatically guarantee a place on a particular course. Applicants must still meet the published entry requirements for their chosen programme.

    Higher Education

    An EHCP is not usually maintained once a student has completed further education (level 3) and moves into higher education.

    •  Students wanting to progress into higher education courses (such as HNCs, HNDs, degrees or equivalent) who require additional support may be eligible to apply for DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) through Student Finance England. 
    • DSA can help fund specialist equipment, study support and other reasonable adjustments to support your learning.
